We have visitors all this week so decided to show them the beauty of the North Moray coastline. All of this is very easy to do from Caravan 109, based at Nairn Lochloy Holiday Park, the perfect place for a caravan holiday in Scotland.
On Wednesday we headed out of Nairn for Lossiemouth and parked up outside the dentists just along from the harbour. First things first and we had a coffee in La Caverna, a nice continental cafe bar and bistro by the East Beach. After stoking up we took a walk by the water down towards the big holiday park, and beyond into the scrubland where there were Whitethroats and Linnets singing. There was a first Winter Iceland Gull amongst all the other Gulls, making it six Gull species for the day - Black Headed, Common, Herring, Lesser Black Backed and Great Black Backed, plus the Iceland Gull!!
From Lossiemouth we took the Coastal Trail East and headed for Cullen, the home of the famous Cullen Skink. It is a beautiful small town right on the coast with a very picturesque Golf Course. We were ready for something to eat so parked up in the square and went to the Puddleduck Patch, and interesting place with a nice cafe and a weird assortment of fabric stuff! You can of course treat yourself to a bowl of the famous Cullen Skink itself or a wide variety of other soups and sandwiches. Their home baking and desserts are also tasty calorie busters. After lunch we went down to the car park next to the Golf Course and watched a couple of tiny Eider ducklings struggling to swim against the waves that were crashing against the rocks. Mother was not in sight and we feared the worst!
We decided to return to Nairn inland and stop off at Elgin. We stopped at the Johnston's Cahmere place and had a look round here. Nice stuff and a good cafe with very friendly staff. It is also a great place to park if you want to go and have a look at the Elgin Cathedral ruins which are just around the corner.
From Elgin it is just a short drive back to Nairn - a good day out!
